Summer Music Institutes

Our mission is to provide everyone, no matter their age or experience, an enriching musical education through instrumental or vocal study, musical ensemble participation and/or music classes.

Now in their nineteenth year, the Summer Music Institutes at the Academy of Music provide multifaceted opportunities for artistic growth for musicians of all ages.  Through intensive Institutes focused on Harp, Chamber Music, Guitar, Choir, Piano, Violin and Musical Theater, SMI offers unparalleled opportunities in music performance and instruction.

At the same time, we are proud to provide all of the fun and camaraderie of a summer music camp, where students form new friendships that will last a lifetime.  SMI students participate daily in ensembles, coachings, and classes.  We also offer courses in music history, music theory, aural skills, conducting, special seminars and master classes with faculty and world-class guest artists, providing once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to work with truly great artists.

Each student has an opportunity to perform, and every Institute concludes with a final concert.  Our outstanding faculty comes from the world's finest musical institutions, including the Julliard School, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Shenandoah Conservatory, the Yale School of Music, and the Eastman School of Music.   These internationally recognized artists are experts in fostering a nurturing and professional atmosphere, in which our students experience the highest level of musical training.

In our nineteen year history, Summer Music Institutes have served over a thousand talented young musicians, many returning year after year from all over the United States and around the globe.  We hope you will join us for SMI 2014!
